Aimed at therapists new to mobility scooters or basic powered wheelchairs as well as therapists wanting a deeper understanding of Powered Mobility Device (PMD) assessment, training, rules and resources.
The workshop will include a combination of dynamic recorded presentations, practical components exploring features and set up of PMDs to best meet individual needs and an introduction to the PoMoDATT standardised assessment.
Case studies will be used to highlight key considerations in PMD assessment and common questions will be addressed.
Learning Objectives:
- To be able to identify the skills required for safe use of a powered mobility device.
- Increased confidence in assessing and training clients in how to use powered mobility devices (scooters and basic powered wheelchairs).
- Greater understanding of client considerations during assessment and training for powered mobility device use.
- Increased knowledge of the issues related to powered mobility device use.
- Introduction to and practical experience in using the Powered Mobility Device Assessment Training Tool (PoMoDATT).

PRESENTER
Kathryn Townsend
Kathryn is a highly experienced occupational therapist working in a community health setting. She is a trained occupational therapy driver assessor with a keen interest in the assessment and training of powered mobility device users. Kathryn is passionate about the way powered mobility device use can positively impact on quality of life and community participation. She is co-author of the Powered Mobility Device Assessment and Training Tool (PoMoDATT). She has conducted many workshops and conference presentations and has published articles about powered mobility device use.
